First Officer Oman

A couple of weeks ago a fellow aviator and friend to many had a surfer on a wave collide into Oman's head which resulted in a fractured skull and a severe cut to the left eye socket. He and his girlfriend were sent in ambulance to Liberia where he was first stabilized then flown in a small private aircraft to San Jose where he underwent brain surgery along with a second surgery after the brain swelling subsided.

His family has been by his side since arriving in Costa Rica. His parents and his girlfriend have been there 24/7, each taking shifts, at the hospital sleeping in waiting room chairs and the occasional couch. When possible they’ve stayed at affordable hotels in the area. 

Head injuries are unlike any other injuries. You can X-ray a broken limb or see issues with most every other organ. The brain is the most complicated and complex organ in our body. Each head injury is unique and never fully understood for years to come. It becomes a long journey not only for the victim but also for their friends and family.
