Fire relief fund for Amber and Gabe

$3,687 of $6,250 goal

Raised by 39 people in 8 months
On the morning of Jan 31, 2018, my daughter Amber and grandson Gabe lost everything they own in a house fire in Westminster, VT. Home furnishings, pictures, books, clothing, jewelry, electronics and a lifetime of memories are gone. Their beloved dog and cats also perished in the fire. Local services found them a room to live in a local motel until they can find housing. It’s not a great situation but at least they are walking distance to grocery stores, pharmacy, eating establishments, doctors, and the hospital. Their next step would be finding a new place to live and furnishing the place. It has been devastating to watch my daughter and grandson hit by such hardship. They have experienced a rough road these past years'. Gabe lost his father, a veteran, 6 years ago and all his memorabilia was destroyed in the fire. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated. It's a sad and stressful time for them with a long road ahead to rebuild their lives. Red Cross helped with some emergency funds for clothing for Amber and Gabe the day of the fire.  If you’re able to help, I am hoping to raise $8,000 in cash to get them set up in a new apartment.  Amber and Gabe will need 2 months’ rent plus deposit and utilities to be set up that usually includes deposits.   Once a place is found, the next step will be furnishing the apartment. Every room will need new furniture: Bedrooms, Living Room and Kitchen.  Household items such as bedding, kitchen items, bathroom items and the list goes on will need to be purchased for their new home.  Many items lost contained family memories that will never be replaced, however Amber and Gabe will rebuild. Their next journey will create new memories with a positive future ahead of them.  Thank you again for the support,  Wendy Brattleboro, VT

Greetings,

Amber and Gabe are getting settled in to their new apartment.

Last weekend, we visited a few 2nd hand stores in Brattleboro. Amber found a desk for Gabe, large book shelf, small table for the kitchen and other kitchen items. She found inexpensive art to hang on the walls to add some color to the place and make it home. I was able to find mattresses and bed frames on Amazon and these arrived this week. The futons and frames I gave them have become a couch and chair for them.

Gabe seems to be less anxious and much happier now that they have settled into their home. His sparkle seems to be coming back.

Any extra sharing of the campaign is appreciated. Again, thank your support in contributing to Amber and Gabe fire relief fund.

Regards,
Wendy

A brief update on Amber and Gabe.

They will be moving into their new apartment on Monday. They are glad to move from a hotel room where they have been living since the fire on Jan 31st.

At times, grief from loss overwhelms Amber and rebuilding a home seems more of a chore instead of an adventure moving to a new place. But she is still moving forward and hoping for the best.

Wednesday, Gabe started attending the school that he used to attend before moving to Westminster. Teachers and many students remembered Gabe from 2 years ago and welcomed him back, easing some of his stress.

Thank you again for the financial support through Go Fund Me! I will leave up the Go Fund Me page in case anyone would still like to support them during the transition.

Regards,
Wendy Creager
