A big thanks to everyone for your generous support.  More than half way there!  Help is on the way Badio family!

Poverty ... abject poverty ... not knowing whether you'll have a roof over your head or food in your stomach, is an ugly phenomenon.

In my own life, I've had the great fortune to play some role, as big or small as it may be, in improving the human condition.

One of my greatest teachers - Arouna Badio, a man I am proud to call my friend, has lived most of his life in such abject poverty.

I first met Arouna in 2008, after moving to Senegal, West Africa.  In fact it was on the very first day upon arrival.  Ever since that moment, Arouna has alway been there for me without question and without asking for anything in return.

In the years that have passed, I've made it a personal mission to help Arouna and his family break the cycle of poverty.

In 2018, ten years after we first met, I'm truly honored to say that Arouna finally achieved this goal.

Arouna and his wife secured a small shop at a local market.  With this income the couple have been able to support their children in school, and to ensure that there is a roof over their heads and food on the table at meal times.

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this message.

Earlier this week on March 15, 2019 a fire broke out at the market, burning with it many families livelihoods.

It's not clear what was the cause (likely faulty electrical wiring). But it is clear that no insurance will cover this damage, and that Arouna and his family are now faced with the grim reality that they have lost their entire livelihood.

Please help me in raising funds to support the Badio family in rebuilding financial security in their lives.

All funds will go toward leasing a shop in a new safer location and toward merchandise.

I will oversee these efforts and will update all donors of the progress.

Thank you
