Finn's Emergency Vet Visit

Donation protected

Last night my roomate Caitlin called me as I was leaving work, something was wrong with my cat Finn. He was panting, drooling and just acting off -- her cat Ben alerted her something was wrong. She rushed to the vet with Finn and I met her there.

The vet tech immedialty took him in back to check vitals and see if there was anything they could easily pinpoint to being wrong. His body temp was low, so they held him in a heated kennel. The first assumption was he ate something weird, because he seemed to be having stomach pain. He was given x-ray to see if there was any obstruction, nothing that the vet could immedaitly see but the radiologist would take a look in the morning. Next up blood work, he had elevated blood sugar and his potassium was very low. At this point they decided he would need to be kept over night for monitoring. He still purred everytime I got to be near him, which I decided to take as a good sign.

My cat is my best friend and favorite thing, this little guy has gotten me through some really really hard life over the past few years. Leaving him at the vet and arriving home without him was terrible, even Ben seemed to know something was off when I got home. But I knew he was in good hands and needed the care.

As of this morning, we still aren't sure what exactly happened. His vitals are looking good, blood sugar is normal again and they gave him potassium over night and got the levels back to normal. He will be seen by another vet today and some neurological tests are going to be run. Best case scenerio he has a potassium deficiancy that we can suppliment and he comes home tonight or tomorrow.

To keep treating him last night I had to put $600 down and when I left the vet last the bill was lingering around $1,200 which roughly breaks down to:

Intial Exam: $125
X-Ray: $325
Blood Work: $300
Overnight Monitoring/Stay: $350
Medication: $150

I live by meager means and asking for help especially financial help - is something that doesn't come easy to me. There is no way I could turn down getting care for Finn and this kind of bill is a thing that can easily set me back months. Every little bit helps, and Finn and I will be forever grateful.  xoxo, cristabell & white cat
