Filloreta Gashi’s Fight with Stomach Cancer

Donation protected
The volunteers at Peter MacCullum Cancer Clinic gave Filloreta 3 teddies, each representing her kids so she had comfort through her first combined treatment. ❤️

Thankyou, your kind messages and donations have already helped Filloreta’s fight against cancer, she feels so grateful that so many people have cared enough to give her donations and hope that she can get her treatment, and this (sadly) buys her more time with her 3 little kids.
My name is Tracey Cricelli, my daughter-in-law is Val Gashi, Filloreta is Val’s sister-in-law.
We have opened up a bank account just for the donations raised for Filloreta and Val is  the beneficiary (bank account details, end of page). We ensure you that the money raised will go directly to help Filloreta and her family.
Again, Thankyou for helping us raise the funds to pay for Filloreta’s treatment, I made this page because i know how it feels to loose your mum, and to think that little kids who do not understand, have to say goodbye to their mum.....this cause is close to my heart.

My story:

January 23rd 1994, my mother died from cancer (melanoma), she was 42 years old. I was 19 years old, I had a baby boy (Dion) and my mum had to say goodbye to her husband, 4 kids and 2 grandkids. My mum was grateful that her kids were old enough to look after themselves.
Like other people who have had to watch their mother die, words cannot describe the loss and loneliness that I felt with loosing her, I wish this on no one.

This is my cause:

Filloreta is a 31 year old wife to Granit and mother of 3 children; Rosie 7, Lenny 5 and Sofia who is only 1.
Filloreta is originally from Albania, she lives a socially isolated life with her kids, having no direct family members living in Australia.

Filloreta’s Diagnosis:

Since December 2018 Filloreta has lost 35kg and now weighs under 40kg, she has had a loss of appetite and was suffering daily with nausea and vomiting.
February 2019 after a repeat gastroscope (surgery to look inside her stomach), a biopsy was taken and the results were that Filloreta has a Poorly differentiated Adenocarcinoma, diffuse type Stomach Cancer (WHAT).
1st March 2019: A Laprascopy was done and this also confirmed Peritoneal nodules (Stomach Cancer), and also a liver biopsy was taken and nodules were also present (meaning the cancer is spreading).

Terminal metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma and carcinomatosis syndrome. Stage 4, non curable with either surgery or chemotherapy.
Granit had to leave his job in December 2018 because he now needed to care for the 3 kids alot more when Filloretta was becoming increasingly ill.

5th March 2019:

Filloreta was put on IV fluids and is trying to gain some strength, the doctors are trying to see if they can buy some more time for her with Chemotherapy. We (her family) then were told that there was a trial for Immunotherapy for gastric/stomach cancer combined with Chemotherapy but she did not qualify to go on this trail.
We were all devastated.
Immunotherapy is not covered under Australia's Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), which provides subsidised and even free medication, and not all medical bills are covered by Medicare or Private Health Insurance either.
Immunotherapy combined with Chemotherapy, when self funded is $9000 up front each month and when the cost reaches $60000 she can hopefully get a reduction in price from the Pharmaceutical company for each month there after.
Granit was the family's sole income provider and with him having to take so much time off work, they have been struggling with her medical bills and they have been living on next to nothing, struggling to make ends meet, we did not see that things were so bad financially.
This combined treatment is the last hope to buy more time with Filloreta.

This is why we need to raise some money!

If we can raise enough money for Filloreta’s treatment that would be fantastic. If we can raise even more then it will help with everyday costs with the children, food, bills, fuel, medications and any other treatments.

The 5 year survival rate for Stage 4 Stomach Cancer is only 4% and this is even less when it is aggressive in a younger person like Filloreta.
We all (Granit, Rosie, Lenny, Sofia, Granit's 4 Sisters, 3 Brother-in-laws, Parents and Friends) need to make this huge fight happen, we need to give Filloreta hope and have her fight for longer to spend precious time with her 3 young kids.

Any donation that you can spare, no matter how small is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Filloreta's fight with Stomach Cancer and please, if you can fight with us!
