Yearning for a child is like missing someone you haven’t met yet. Infertility is like missing someone you might never get to meet.
Will our baby be a Gryffindor or a Hufflepuff? Will they be a Rogue, or a Ranger, or maybe a Cleric? Will they love comics, cosplay, and games? Will they love something so hard they know it inside and out? Will they love something so hard that it hurts? Will they love and need their parents as much as their parents love and need them?
Please help us find out! We've been together a long time, and been through so much, and nothing has hurt nearly as much as this hole in our life where the rest of our family should be. We know it, we can feel it. There's something missing and we know what it is but it's harder for us to get it. We've never fought for anything like we've fought for this, but we're running out of magic and we need help.
We've tried very, very hard not to purchase anything until we're successful in getting pregnant, but we failed to resist a couple of times already.
IVF is our only option for conceiving a child. We only have a limited amount of frozen sperm, so IUI is not an option for us. This will be our second round of IVF. We were able to pay entirely out of pocket by sheer luck and with the help of family, but it failed and we didn’t even make it to a transfer, and had no embryos frozen. So we have to start all over again, and don’t have the money to do it. Bea has spent the last 6 months working hard at Starbucks to gain access to their unique IVF coverage. For the best plan we could afford, our insurance will cover 70% minus certain medications. We still need to come up with 30% to pay upfront and out of pocket, plus the cost of meds. 
Ouch.
We've paid as much as we're currently able to pay. The next payment we need to make is due in two weeks. The amount we're trying to raise will cover our meds and the remaining payment to the clinic, as well as hit our out-of-pocket maximum for the year so even if this next attempt fails, we'll be covered for the next. We're actively trying to negotiate the cost down, and if we're successful we'll be able to put any extra gained through this fundraiser towards our basic living expenses like rent and utilities, which we're also in danger of losing.
$1049.07 due by 11/14. Up to $5000 for medication (we're still trying to get the exact number needed and find out what is and isn't covered by insurance). We will very likely need the additional $779.91 if we successfully retrieve multiple eggs.
In the 12 years that we’ve been together, and 9 years we’ve been married, we’ve been through so much that at times we feel invincible. We know that we’re strong, but sometimes you need help. We didn’t want to ask for help, and we tried everything possible to not get to this point. Infertility can happen to anyone (1 in 8 couples, to be exact), but not everyone can have easy access to treatment. Only 16 states mandate or require insurance companies to offer coverage for infertility treatments. If you live in a state that doesn’t (like North Carolina), you either have to pay entirely out of pocket and upfront, or find a job that covers the treatment you need (and not many companies do). We hope one day infertility treatment in this country will be covered just like anything else. But until then, couples like us need to do things like this for a chance to grow our family.
We have already sacrificed so much and fought so hard for our baby that doesn’t even exist yet. And when we finally get to meet them, we will make sure they know just how much we wanted them and who helped to make their existence possible.
They'll probably be Hufflepuff.
