The Fight For Connie

Donation protected
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Michele Belush, and as many of you may not even know much about me or my family, I honestly appreciate you taking the time to read this.

My family has always had horrible luck when it comes to this thing called life... especially during the month of May (Mayhem Month), but this last May has topped them all.

My mother, Connie, had an eye infection that would not go away and after going to the emergency walk-in, she was sent to the hospital due to odd results found in her blood tests.

Fast forward to two weeks in the hospital, two missed flights, a six hour road trip and a lot of inconclusive tests. The University of New Mexico confirmed a diagnosis that we weren't expecting...

Connie was diagnosed with Atypical Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (aCML), which is an extremely rare form of Leukemia that has no current standard of care and with a historically low survival rate, my mother has already started treatment hoping to fight this horrible diagnosis.

With Connie finishing her first week of chemotherapy, we felt empowered for the long battle ahead of us. But like I said before we have horrible luck...

Just so you know, my mother is the hardest working person I know. While raising two kids on her own, there were times my mother worked three jobs just to support us and after searching for a suitable job with her relocation to Florida, Connie landed a dream job as the controller of a homeowner's association.

Starting her new job this past April, the preceding diagnosis worried her, but as I continually reassured her that they would see beyond her diagnosis, our worst fears came true.

My mother was fired from her job for no reason... when she questioned their decision, she was given only a reply of "don't ask". They were not too happy with the prior week of half days that consisted of driving 30 minutes to get to her job, and leaving around lunchtime to attend her treatment for the remainder of the day. Connie, going through the scariest week of her life, was even working during her treatment and sometimes into the evening.

Long story short... I need your help. As my mother, being the proud woman she is, did not want me to create this campaign but we have no where else to turn at this point.

Conveniently being fired two days before her insurance became effective, while enduring the necessary weekly blood transfusions, chemotherapy, and last but not least, in need of a bone marrow transplant... the bills have already begun to pile up.

Again, I truly appreciate you taking the time to read this and hope to have your support. Whether you donate or just share this campaign, anything will help us through the hard and long battle ahead of us.
