The fight for a Hero Homar Salinas

Sometimes Heros need saving too!  Lieutenant Homar Salinas from Mission Fire Department is up against the biggest fight of his life battling kidney cancer.  Homar has always put others before himself spending over 25 years saving lives as a firefighter.  He has done such a great job serving his community that he inspired his son, Omar Salinas to follow his footsteps and become a firefighter for the City of Mission as well.  Homar also has a daughter, Samantha Salinas, and another son Ray David Salinas that also aspires to be a firefighter.  Homar has been married to his high school sweetheart, Nereida Salinas for 28 years and is a proud Grandfather of 8 grandkids.  In December 2017 what seemed to feel like a stomach virus, sent Homar to the hospital.  It was discovered that he had Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma.  This news came as a big shock, as typically this cancer is predominant in smokers but Homar has never smoked a cigarette in his life!  In doing research, firefighters are prone to this type of cancer based off the chemicals and toxins they are exposed to after time.  However, Homar was denied coverage through the city's Workman's Compensation insurance TML, therefore leaving the burden of paying copays, travel expenses, and several other burdens that go along with having cancer.
Homar is currently undergoing treatment at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas and the expenses of driving over 350 miles to get treatment has taken a toll on the family financially.  Being on LOA (leave of absence), as he seeks treatment, does not provide the full financial benefits as if he were working his shifts causing additional financial strain on the family.
Financial contributions would be of tremendous assistance to the family during this time, but if not possible thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated for Homer.  We will keep you posted on his road to recovery as we have updates.  Thank you in advance!
