Ella Grace Otto is a vibrant, spunky, 8-year-old girl that had no worries in the world. On Tuesday December 5th Ella had an MRI. Over the past few weeks she has been having headaches, dizziness, and occasional vomiting. Her symptoms were very irregular and she would go many days without showing any. The Otto family- Randy, Jena, Haley (13), RJ (11) and Ella (8)- world was turned upside down when they found out she had a tumor located on her Cerebellum and near her Brain Stem.
She was directly admitted to the hospital where she anxiously stayed for 4 days with her family and friends, before undergoing a 10 1/2-hour brain surgery to remove the tumor on Friday December 8th.
Ella Grace came out of surgery as spunky as ever. She immediately asked where her brother RJ was. RJ came into her hospital room in the PICU and asked Ella if she remembered his name, and she state “butthead”.
The tumor was sent for Pathology, to determine the causative factors. It was determined to be a Pilocytic Astrocytoma Low-Grade tumor. Lesser of the evils. We are very thankful.
On Saturday Ella was scheduled to have a post-surgical MRI to confirm the removal of the tumor. As her family patiently awaited the results at Ella's bedside, they finally came in. The news was not what they were expecting. Unfortunately, there was a little tumor left behind, located near the Brain Stem. Ella has an amazing surgeon that aired on the side of caution due to the severity of surgery near the Brain Stem.
Ella is scheduled to have the remaining portion of the tumor near the Brain Stem removed on Monday. The surgeon has to use extreme caution due to the location.
We have asked for many prayers and the out pouring of love has been greatly appreciated. However, the Otto family needs more support in this time than they initially expected. Jena and Randy have remained at Ella Grace's bedside since Tuesday.
We are starting this GoFundMe because the cost of one brain surgery let alone two is astronomical. This is going to be a long recovery; any financial help is greatly appreciated.
