Dear friends and family of Julie Alsip Bucknam,
As you probably know by now, our beloved Julie was stricken by a form of viral encephalitis. While the sweet, loving Julie that we all know is still with us on the inside, the disease has robbed her of many of her cognitive abilities.
Doctors warn us of a long and difficult road to recovery, involving rehab, therapy, medication, and hospital stays. Memories of her family, her friends, her entire life must be reformed. She will work with therapists on speech, tackling tasks we often take for granted, such as associating words with the correct objects.
Your thoughts and prayers have helped so much in sustaining the family through the initial trauma. We're now reaching out to you via a GoFundMe page in the hope you might consider helping once again.
No insurance plan will cover all of the costs Julie will face over what doctors warn will be at least 6-12 months of intensive rehabilitation after leaving the hospital. To add to our fears, the Frankfort cuts to educators' benefits that Julie and her fellow teachers lobbied so hard against may wipe out her coverage completely. These are very uncertain times.
Any amount you may wish to donate would be deeply appreciated, no matter how small. 100% of the amount received from this campaign will go directly to Julie's medical care.
In the event that any funds are remaining when our Julie is finally back with us, they will be donated in their entirety to Julie's favorite charity, The Alzheimer's Association. One of Julie's favorite yearly events is the "Alma's Army" Alzheimer's march in Portsmouth, Ohio. We know in our hearts that she is looking forward to walking with you again, as soon as she is able.
