Fight for Oona # battling CDH

First we want to thank all our friends, family, and community local and the CDH community for the uplifting words and prayers. Its truly amazing how people can come together and fill you full of hope when there was none. So again thank you all for being there for our family. Here is our story and beginning of our journey. Also here is a link to Oonas page to follow her story. https://www.facebook.com/groups/506810723430781/ My husband and I live in Livermore, Maine and found out when I was pregnant at our 2nd trimester appointment that our baby has CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia).  This disease is when there is a hole in the diaphram. Organs migrate through the hole into the chest stunting or stopping development of the lungs. It can also affect the heart among other things. Babies  born with this disease have a 50% chance of survival. Our baby has her stomach, part of her bowels, and liver in her chest. Her heart is pushed to the right. I can still hear the doctors voice as he told us. As you can imagine the pain we felt hearing this news is like no other. As parents we feel helpless and scared. We were referred to Boston Children's Hospital. They have a wonderful team there who handle CDH cases and have saved thousands of lives. There are no hospitals in Maine equipped to handle CDH cases. This is our only hope. Through CDH support groups we have found hundreds of cases with babies just like ours survive and thrive with the right care. We want to give Oona that same chance. Oona was born on July 17th 2019 and immediately taken to the childrens ICU. She started off struggling and was put on the strongest ventilator they have. She was then put on ECMO which is baby life support. She needs time for the machine to do the work so she can have surgery. This condition requires months in the hospital. Her father and I need to be by her side. She is our sweet baby girl. We cannot predict her future. We just know that everyday here by her side is a blessing and we need your help to make that happen. We have no income while we are here with us both being on a leave of absence. It is not easy living in Boston and the expenses to be here with Oona are high. We want our other daughter whom is 10 to be with her family too and she has been without us for 6 weeks already. We need our family to be whole to be able to get through this. We are not ones to ask for handouts but this is one of the ways to keep us together for Oona. Anything helps even just a share. Please imagine this as your child and having to leave your job, your family, and your state to have every minute with your baby not knowing the outcome.
