Help Joe With Surgery Costs

In 2010 I had gastric bypass surgery, and soon afterwards lost over 150 pounds. I’ve kept the weight off, and while I’ve obviously been thrilled with the weight loss, losing a ton of weight is a lot more complicated than an actor taking off a fat suit in a movie. I have loose skin that makes everyday life difficult and often painful. It makes it hard to exercise (though I do anyway) and impossible to fit into any size of clothing. It often gets irritated and prone to rashes. It makes it difficult to enjoy the freedom of movement that my weight loss has otherwise allowed me.
Although the removal of this skin is extremely common following weight-loss surgery, and despite the fact that the loose skin presents legitimate health risks, insurance companies typically consider the removal of this loose skin to be cosmetic, and so won’t cover it. I’ve been turned down by my insurance before, but I’ve decided that the surgery is important enough for my happiness and wellbeing that I’m going to try to pay out of pocket.
Surgery is expensive. I’m saving money myself, but I don’t make much and I don’t want to wait until my 30s to have a body I can actually move around in.
Anything you can give would be hugely appreciated, and would have more of a positive impact on my life and health than you can probably picture from what little I’ve written here. Thank you so much!
