Feeding Windsor has been providing nutritious community meals for 2 years, free of charge, to people in need. People we serve experience food insecurity and isolation for various reasons. They may be single parents, seniors, the working poor, or just someone in need of a good meal. We provide meals with community partners in areas of Windsor with the highest density of low income population. In the last 2 years Feeding Windsor has provided 30 000 meals for those in need. And we will continue to do so!
Now we are looking to expand the way we serve those with food insecurity. This will be done through the FEEDING WINDSOR FOOD CLUB. This is a member's only food market that will allow people to leverage their grocery allowance and have ownership and flexibilty over their food choices. Traditional food banks provide traditional food bank food and emergency assistance and are not designed to provide a regular diet or healthy way of eating. The highest quartile of health problems in Canada is experienced by the lowest quartile of wage earners. This is because of the high fat, high sugar, processed diet that is available in canned and processed foods.
The Feeding Windsor Food Club will provide freshly prepared meals, produce, eggs, bakery and deli choices. A monthly membership fee for a single person will be $21.95 and will give you $50 in 'food club dollars'. A couple's monthly fee of $40 will give them $90; and a family membership will also be available. With your food club dollars you can come as frequently as you like, and spend as much or as little of your food club dollars as you like at each visit. All produce that we receive will be given out free of charge and we will always have a variety of produce options available. The Food Club will look similar to your local grocery store with a deli, bakery, produce, and freshly prepared food section.
Feeding Windsor is a non-profit food program of New Song Church. The community meals we provide are supported by the generous donations of local churches, businesses, unions, and individuals from the Windsor community. We are a volunteer driven organization and over 80% of every dollar donated goes directly to the food we serve.
At this time, we are launching this campaign to raise the start up costs of the Feeding Windsor Food Club. The ongoing operations will be supported by our current donor base and membership fees. It is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of this one of a kind food operation. Nothing like this exsists in Windsor. You can empower people to have control over their food and health choices! We have the opportunity to change the face of food insecurity in Windsor.
