Feed Iowa First Veggie Van

$2,680 of $16,000 goal

Raised by 38 people in 1 month
Feed Iowa First is a nonprofit that plants, cares for, harvests, and distributes free, fresh, locally produced vegetables to Linn County residents who are hungry and do not have access to the healthy nutrition that is provided by fresh produce.  These vegetables are grown by employees of businesses and members of churches in Cedar Rapids and Marion that see the need and want to be part of the solution.
Feed Iowa First has planted a wide variety of vegetables from greens to garlic,  potatoes, zucchini, eggplant, onions, corn, beans and much more. Several weeks ago over 1,000 tomato plants were planted and we know that in a month they will start ripening.
So we have the plants; we have the volunteers caring for the plants; we know how and where we can reach the hungry people in our community BUT the vehicle we have been using to deliver the veggies is over 40 years old and is constantly in need of repair.  Last year we couldn't count on it being up and running and towards the end of the season the volunteers had to use their own cars to deliver the vegetables.
Feed Iowa First has just purchased a wonderful new van that will be retrofitted to carry the vegetables to the distribution sites.  We need your help in paying for this van.   We would like to have the van paid off by the time we distribute our first harvest in mid-July.  Please join us in taking care of our neighbors in Linn County with a contribution to Feed Iowa First's Veggie Van.

The Go Fund Me page, "Feed Iowa First" reached it’s first $500.00 of donations today! Thank you to those of you that contributed in the first 4 days. We only (!) have $15,500 to go and we hope to be at least 1/2 there before mid - July when our 1st deliveries go out. Donations to the van help FIF address the problem of food insecurity in Linn County. Be part of the solution by making a donation to the Feed Iowa First GoFundMe page!
