THE FILM:
"What is your definition of Mercy?"
This Tritone Harmonies is a psycho-Drama/Thriller. The story and Henry Jung and his domestic staff in a fictional principality called Cæcus that shares borders with England and Scotland. Henry is the last member of one of the 9 families that founded the country. He discovers that an epidemic is starting to spread into the city from the port. He decides to send his staff to a country house of his, on the edge of the principality. After coming back from abroad in a bad shape, he is faced with the resentment of some of the members of the staff and the struggle he experiences while he tries to "save" them from the epidemic.
It's a strong story that emphasises on the society's moral ethics and the right on another human being's life. It's mostly character driven, exploring the cohesion within this group of people, representing a micro-society.
THE VISUAL STYLE:
The visuals of the film are inspired by the works of Terrence Malick with wide angles , the HUGE lighting work of Stanley Kubrick and his symetrical composition, but also Inglar Bergman and Béla Tarr with his continuous shots. It's also inspired by the German expressionism of the 1920's and the paintings of the French Impressionism. The main thread of the film is to introduce the uncanny into the day by day, the boring reality of the characters.
CHALLENGES:
This film being an independent feature, and my debut, I wear many hats. Such as Producer, Director, DP and Writter. I have to focus on many things at the same time, but having studied all the aspects of the production process, I feel confident enough to overcome any problem that might appear. Delays in the production are not impossible though, mostly on the post-production process or the search for the perfect locations that will give a touch of grace to the film.
But, I am driven by the wish and expectation to see this film on theaters, to share emotions with the audience. Having written the script myself, I must do this film since I'm constantly thinking about the mise en scene and how to film it. How to add layers of symbolism and meaning.
Finally, I have to add that we've recieved over a HUNDRED applications for auditions. All the actors having read the script, they all sent me feedbacks telling me that they were either inspired or/and intrigued by the story.
