Let's Help the Farrell Family

I’m sure many of you have seen on the news the massive destruction the mud/debris flow from the recent fires in California created. Marco, his mom (Gabrielle), and dad (Jeff), unfortunately, were in the middle of it since they lived on Olive Mill. All three (as well as their dog, Lucas) were trapped in waist deep mud for 2hours while waiting to be rescued. Thankfully, Marco and his parents made it out alive, but the videos seen in the news shot by Marco is just a glimpse of what they had to go through. As many of you may know, Marco and his family will do anything possible to make sure everyone around them is taken care of and to see this destruction happen to them is just awful.

The Farrells are just as important to me as if they were my own family. During my 3 year stay in California, I have so many memories in their gorgeous home especially since I spent many holidays with them when I couldn’t afford to fly home to Philly. I also have so many memories of the Farrells inviting anyone and everyone over to their house to enjoy a homecooked meal prepared by Marco’s talented mom. They are the most generous family I’ve ever met and I know thousands of us have been touched by how much they’ve done for everyone around them.

If you’re like me and want to help, please donate as they can use the funds to help restore their house. Any amount would be appreciated. Also, the Farrells will be the beneficiaries of this account.

2/6 Update:

First and foremost, THANK YOU ALL for your generous donations. Secondly, sorry for not providing an update until now….it’s been a rough few weeks for the Farrells and as you can imagine, they are still mentally and physically recovering. Over the past week, the Farrells have been able to access their home and started shovelling away the mud. Their 3 cars have been totalled and towed away, at least a foot of mud still exists inside and outside of the house, and mold has started to develop. The good news is Jeff's Olympic medals have been found and their 4 chickens survived, but adding to the bad news is that the Farrells completed FEMA applications and have had numerous calls with their insurance only to have a grim outlook. Getting the bare minimum reimbursed for the damages is looking like a low probability. It's difficult to see how our system fails during a time of desperate need.

The Farrells are beyond grateful for the donations received thus far from the GoFundMe page as well as the amount of support from volunteers in the community. Volunteers from near and far have helped shovel and salvage their belongings and the GoFundMe page has helped them purchase day to day essentials. Gabrielle wanted me to share a picture she drew to show her appreciation.

Please help and continue to share this GoFundMe page as I know it'll help the family in many ways.
