Organic Farm Needs A Well

The Farm on Cotton Hill is a certified organic start up, growing delicious hard-to-find vegetables on our homestead  nestled in the hills of Schoharie County, New York. Greg and I left the big city with a dream, and daily we work like crazy to make it come true. We hoped and prayed that we would earn enough this year to drill a well, but because it has been such a dry summer, we are growing, harvesting and selling much less than we had planned. Without a well we can't earn enough to water, and we can't water without the well.  This past winter we invested in a second high tunnel (see photo) and spent every last penny we made last year plus what we could shake out of the piggy bank. We both have day jobs to support our organic farming habit.

We are just about out of water. The old dug well is a few feet short of dry. Our rain barrel system, which we just sunk about $700 into, is great...when and if it rains. The sooner we drill a well the better.

This farm means the world to us. We have become good farmers and good stewards of the land.  We go through the rigors of being certified organic because we believe it is the only responsible thing to do.
