£1,645 of £1,000 goal

Raised by 37 people in 5 months
UistFilm, part of Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre in Lochmaddy, North Uist, is raising funds to save recently found local archive film collections in a project called FAODAIL | FOUND . Faodail is a Gaelic word for a lucky find.

To launch the project in January 2019 we are aiming to digitise 4000 feet of super8 colour film by local naturalist and Gaelic educator Annie (Chnoc na Luib) MacDonald from the 1960's and 70’s. The films document Annie’s love of her native island’s unique flora and fauna.

Faodail | FOUND will make the films accessible online and in venues across the Outer Hebrides. Screening events will present the films to a wide range of audiences to collect detailed information and reminisces from the era and locations relating to the films. This added context will be of immense value to future generations.

All donors to this campaign will receive a free Faodail | FOUND film download.

Mòran taing. Many thanks.

We have now had the film digitised (we actually used the additional funds to digitise at an even higher resolution) and we will be organising screenings at UistFilm's base in Lochmaddy for Annie's family, friends & colleagues and other donors in Uist over the coming weeks. These screenings will be vital to catalogue the footage and put names to places and people. please get in touch if you would be interested in attending screenings.

Wow! thanks to all supporters for reaching our target in just 3 days (wasn't sure how it was going to go over christmas). A real mark of the respect felt in the community and further afield for Annie. Funds over our target of £1000 will go towards editing the footage once digitised.
