Family in Need of Holiday Hand Up!

Dear World,

To those that know us, and even those that don’t...hello, we are the Smith Family. I wish I could be writing under better circumstances, but My heart is heavy because I have been recently faced with a landslide of events. You see I have a large family—other than my husband and me, we have 5 small daughters, and in our quest to do something good, and help those who were struggling like ourselves, we hit a curve ball and began spiraling further down the scope.  So, in a nutshell, this is what happened: we moved over 800 miles away to attempt to set up an urban farm/garden within an area of food desserts in Northeast Indiana. Why this state you ask? Well, previously we attempted to gain funding for farming in our home state of Tennessee & were met with:

·         Denied funding 3 times from the USDA, despite having a good credit score at the time.

·         Being kicked off the land we rented (and were gardening) because the owner wanted to go ahead and sell the land...

·         Being unexpectedly displaced for 2 months until we could move near family in a neighboring state—with no access to land.

After a few months of deep meditation, we too all that we had and relocated to NE Indiana, hoping that the land opportunity would be greater than our previous situation. It took a very long time to get our van fixed, and so what we thought would be a quick move, turned out to be a move that took us waiting a month to get the van moving, and my family having to stay with my mother until the van was fixed enough to travel. Though our old 1990 van almost quit on us during the trip, after 15 hours it rolled us into the new foreign state. We sighed with relief thinking we’d made it, and would be able to launch into a potential farming opportunity, but instead, this is what happened:

·         Our vehicle died twice, most recently last week when our fan belt came off, and we are now out of transportation...

·         I unexpectedly lost my job with a great company, because of the amount of time it took to get here and set up (Never saw that Coming)

·         My family and I have been served an eviction notice this morning and we only have 10 days to come up with the money or we are out in the below-freezing weather. DO NOT WANT TO BE DISPLACED AGAIN!

All I can do is laugh to keep from crying at the evil forces that are trying to stop our family from working the land and [now] remaining in our home. For this reason, we are using our last hope by reaching out to the community in hopes that we can quickly raise $2000. This is not an on-going request, as we are a hard-working family, and have jobs lined up to start in January 2017. This money will cover: NOV/DEC past due rent, a belt and repair (so that we have transportation), and funds to keep the lights on this month. As you dish out good deeds this holiday season, Please share, support, and meditate (or pray) for our situation!

PEACE AND BLESSINGS
