5 MILLION FOR FAITH

Donation protected
Faith was rescued by Zawadi la Tumaini Children's Home (www.zlthope.org) on November 3rd, 2015. She is 4 years old.  Faith was severly abused by her aunt before joining our family. She became an orphan at 3 months old. Her entire life has been filled with pain and suffering.

Initially Faith's aunt refused to release Faith from her care. She said Faith had, ''fallen down the stairs''. Our team did not give up. We had heard of Faith's abuse from neighbors in Mathare slum. We were determined to save her. The following day our team returned to Mathare, accompanied by local officals. We successfully rescued Faith from her aunts care and now offically serve as Faith's guardian.

During her first night in our home Faith wept in pain. We knew something was wrong. Her hands and feet showed signs on poor circulation, she had an abscess on her forehead, a gash at the back of her head. Her stomach was swollen due to extreme malnutrition. We brought Faith to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

The doctors at Aga Khan Hospital immediately admitted Faith. Within a 24 hour period Faith underwent surgery which drained her abscess and cleaned out the wound at the back of her head. She received vitamins and fluids through an IV. We met with a dieticitian and cardiologist. The cardiologist detected a heart murmur, our hearts sank as we were informed that Faith suffers from Tetralogy of Fallot, a congential heart disease.

In summary,  Tetralogy of Fallot affects 4 areas of the heart. The condition is serious, but treatable through surgery. The condition is usually treated after birth but since Faith has never been to a hospital it went undetected. We are very lucky to have found her when we did. Faith's frail body cannot survive surgery at this time so we are working with a nutritionist to bring her to a body weight acceptable for Tetralogy of Fallot surgery. Our hope is that Faith will be ready for surgery within the next 6-8 months or less.

Tetralogy of Fallot surgery is quite costly. We require approximately 5 Million Kenyan Shillings, $50,000 USD for the surgery and initial recovery alone (without complications). This figure will increase when including long-term recovery, follow ups, and consultations. Our goal is to raise $50,000 USD (5 million Kenyan Shillings) to support Faith's appointments, surgery, and recovery.

Faith has spent her entire life in fear and pain. Since being rescued we have seen a complete change in her. Her eyes, once dull and swollen with bruises, are now hopeful. She has formed a beautiful relationship with our Co-Founder Jerusha. She has started to interact with her new brothers and sisters. Faith smiles and laughs. She does cry often, because of the pain that comes and goes due her heart condition. But overall she is happy, she is hopeful. Faith has a future now. A bright future. We believe she will survive her surgery and live a long and happy life, but we need your help.

Join us in providing the gift of life to our little Faith. It is never too late for a happy childhood. Support Faith's journey today!
