Fairytale Farm needs your help! We are a small urban farm in Santa Cruz started by Debora and Karsten Wade. Over the last 15 years, we've opened up our backyard to the public for garden tours, classes, parties, and urban homesteading education.
We have found a secret, wonderful location where we can move our urban farm! In addition to moving everything, we need to recreate the infrastructure of an urban farm: drip irrigation, rain collection, grey water system, massive soil amendment, gopher proofing, the new planting of dozens of fruit trees, and so forth. We also need help with outstanding legal fees to get out of the space we've been in. If you have no money to spare, we'd love some of your time to help move precious trees, bushes, flowers, and herbs that we've grown over the years. And we'll need tons of help on the other side creating soil fertility, building chicken coops, bee sanctuaries, etc.
We have gifts for your generosity! We have strong, locally acclimated seeds. We also have 2018 planting calendars and herbal recipe books. But our Grand Prize is an invitation to our Magic Ball, to take place in our new home.
Fairytale Farm has taught hundreds of Santa Cruz locals how to farm, ferment, and process home-grown food. We started with fancy farm-to-table dinners, then hosted weekly parties with garden crafts for kids, a local farmer’s market, and even had art and figure modeling in the garden. We taught animal husbandry, fermentation basics, and later teamed with the UCSC agroecology program in giving students credit for interning on our urban farm. And we’ve thrown a few block parties with live music to enrich our neighborhood. We've also helped create two public fruit orchards, and other beautifications of our neighborhood in Lower Ocean. We are sad to be moving away from all of this hard work, but we know we will color our new location with beautiful gardens, community building, and maybe a new public orchard. Please help us continue to enrich Santa Cruz with our urban farm, and bring us to a better place!
