My nephew, Kash, has albinism. Albinism is a very rare, fewer then 20,000 US cases per year, inherited genetic condition that reduces the amount of melanin pigment formed in the skin, hair and/or eyes. There are different types of albinism and the amount of pigment in the eyes varies; however, vision problems are associated with albinism.
People with albinism have vision problems that are not correctable with eyeglasses, and many have low vision.
The degree of impairment varies with the different types of albinism. Although people with albinism may be considered "legally blind" with a corrected visual acuity of 20/200 or worse, most learn to use their vision in a variey of ways and are able to perform innumerable activities such as reading, riding a bike or fishing. While there is no cure for Albinism there has been a pair of electronic glasses developed, by eSight, that allow the legally blind to actually see.
However, the cost of these glasses are $10,000.
So we are trying to raise enough money so my nephew Kash can actually see! His parents are meeting with eSight on Tuesday 9/26/2017. They have said he is an excellent candidate for the glasses and we hope to get him the glasses as soon as possible!
The money you donate will help him actually see 20/20! Could you imaging after being legally blind to seeing 20/20!!! How exciting that day will be!
