Fabio, 39, Leg Amputation Fund

Fabio Arieira Baia, a very humble and modest 39-yr old, married with Jessica who has 3 children living with him (and the oldest not living with him). He is married to Jessica and has gone through a horrific motorcycle accident 2 months ago. Recovery has been burdensome and painful, not only for himself but for his wife and small children who cannot play with dad at this time… and quite frankly, for a long time.

A CRY FOR HELP

Fabio lives in Brazil and has asked for help through YouTube videos, one in particular entitled “Ajuda Para Compra De Minha Protese” which means “Help for buying my prosthesis.” For those that understand Portuguese, you will understand more details from Fabio himself in that video where he expresses how much he is in need of help. He can go only as far as speaking in Portuguese to Brazilians online, but I have offered to share a little bit of his story here, thus extending his help plea in English and counting on family, friends, and total strangers for help. Fabio became a father at age 23 and from his relationship at that time, he had a daughter named Tayna who is now 16 yrs old and lives with her mother, to whom Fabio pays alimony. His other children living with him and his wife Jessica are Isac - 13, Ana Julia - 11, and Fabio - 4. Fabio is need of a prosthesis since he has lost the lower part of his left leg after suffering serious damages on the motorcycle/car accident.

WHAT HAPPENED

On August 29th, 2018, Fabio had been working and on his way home, going slowly at about 35 mph, a drunk driver at a curve and going fast, hit Fabio head on (the drunk driver entered Fabio’s lane). Fabio had no time to react and was thrown about 330 feet away. With the fall, he amputated his own foot and only figured that out later when he tried getting up and saw the horrific state he was in. He almost lost his right thumb, his left femur trespassed his skin so the bone was exposed, one of his arms was broken (also with an exposed bone), but the rest of his body was preserved, which he is very thankful for.

FINANCES

Prior to the accident, he was working with video productions, as self-employed, a small business owner, making institutional and business videos for internet and TV commercials. Fabio & Jessica’s finances are not looking good. Lots of expenses were incurred as a result of the accident and Fabio’s fight to heal from the surgeries. He does not have disability insurance coverage in Brazil and his wife does not work in order to take care of the children and Fabio. The [now late] bills are starting to pile up.

With your help, Fabio will be able to pay for a leg prosthesis, go through rehab and physical therapy, pay some of his bills, and start working again. Every penny truly counts.
