My name is Doug Hardwick and I am President and Pipe Major of the Indianapolis "500" Gordon Pipers Bagpipe Band and Founder, Pipe Major of the Horse Shoe Pipes and Drums for the NFL Indianapolis Colts. Our namesake band, the Indianapolis "500" Gordon Pipers, was founded in Pike Township, Marion County, Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.A., in 1962 by Dr. Wallace Gordon Diehl. I have been a member of the band since 1969. Back then, you paid for your own uniform, bagpipes and drum. Now, our 501c3 organization owns all uniforms and drums. The bagpipes are still purchased by the member. We are still using uniform parts from the beginning. Providing uniforms for our 38 member band is important. We feel that as we represent the State of Indiana, City of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis Colts, it is important to be sharply dress for the occasion. To fully uniform-up a performer it costs us $4,250.00, we are currently in the need to replace 30 uniforms.

I'm making a personal donation in celebration of the 100th running and in appreciation of your welcoming members and guests for the Contemporary Club of Indianapolis' "porch party" program featuring Allison Melangton and Betsy Smith on April 20, 2016.

This donation is in memory of Doctor Diehl who so kindly tended to our many feline needs. He was a good man, and his memory continues with us.
