Help Susan get back on her feet

Donation protected
Susan suffers from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis which means she struggles with every day activities and day to day life for her is exhausting.

On Thursday 26th April 2018 while crossing the road, Susan was hit by a van, while she remains in hospital, her scooter was completely destroyed, taking away a vital means of getting around.

As a result of this accident, Susan will require intense rehabilitation and respite care until she is able to find a new home. Her injuries mean that on top of her physical and emotional recovery, Susan will now need to find a more appropriate home for and her beloved cat Mr Watson, that is both accessible and affordable.

Susan has spent her life fighting for the rights of others, through her political contributions, human rights campaigns and endless work as an advocate for social justice.

Susan served in the Australian Defence Force for many years and has worked in capability and policy areas in the Department of Defence. These days she runs the persecute; don't perpetrate campaign to eradicate sexual violence in conflict. Numerous community projects and campaigns, from the Lyneham Commons to Young Women Speak Out. Susan invests her time, skills and expertise in peace and security and women's leadership.  She is the Author of the much-loved Susan’s Sumptuous suppers.

Susan has been there for so many people and community groups in Canberra adn further afield. She's teh definition of someone who'll give you the shirt off her back. Now she needs our support in this greatly trying time. Please give what you can and make sure that Susan knows we have got her back!
Money contributed will go towards the purchase of a new mobility scooter, rehabilitation and respite care, as well as assisting Susan to move to more suitable accomodation once she is dischared from hospital.

If you know Susan personally, and are not able to support her in this way, I would encourage you to offer support in other ways. Help with moving home when the time comes, a few meals home cooked meals for her once she returns home, and anything else she will require over the coming weeks and months.

Thankyou

Hi Everyone, I have had a request from the go-fund-me team to update the details of this campaign. For complete transparency, I am a friend of Susan from primary school, we have been reconnected via Facebook and her recent news of the accident was quite upsetting for me to see.
I decided to start the campaign to raise funds for a new scooter and some rehab and to help her to recover in general.
As the page had requested “bank account” details were entered, it was unclear if that was to be Susan’s details or mine. I did not want there to be any issues with the deposits and transfers not working so I entered my own details. I only did this after speaking to Susan and asking for her permission to do so. The deposit I received into my account automatically was screen shot and then deposited directly to Susan’s bank account - of which I also send Susan a screen shot.
I probably went about this in the wrong way but as soon as I set it up the donations came rolling in thick and fast and I was notified that donations would not continue until bank account details and verification was made.
If I can change this over the weekend I will absolutely do this.
I hope I haven’t discouraged anyone to donate with this information, if so, please ask for Susan’s bank account details and I can send them to you (or she can)
Thanks again everyone!
Excellent tally so far!!
