The "Eyes on the Seas" book that Keith Davis worked so tirelessly on since 2007 has been accepted by a publishing house in London, England (Austin McCauley publishing, LLC). McCauley publishing is excited about this work and sees the benefits of educating the world about fisheries observers. They have sent Glenn Quelch and myself (Anik Clemens), the other two editors on the book, a contract and have asked for $4000 to begin production of this important work. They will be taking care of the marketing and publication of this book as well. Glenn and I have asked that this publication be ready for the 8th International Fisheries Observer and Monitoring Conference that will be held in August, 2016, in San Diego, CA. They will gladly work with us to reach this deadline.
As you know, this book "Eyes on the Seas" is a look into the observer profession: who these observers are, the important work that they do, and the entertaining encounters and stories they have to tell. There are stories, poems, photographs, and artwork in this book from over 50 contributors worldwide (both past and current observers). So many of you have expressed your interest in this book and support of its publication and distribution.
Here is where we could use your help. If just 160 people donate $25 each, we will reach our goal of raising $4000 to publish this important work.
We are hoping to raise this money in the next 30 days, so that McCauley publishing can start the production process as soon as possible.
Once this book publishes, you will be able to get your copy various ways. At the next IFOMC, online at Amazon.com, even in various book stores, to name a few.
Another great aspect of this project is that all royalities from book sales will go back into the observer profession. This is something Keith wanted and we are very happy to set it up this way. We are working on establishing a Foundation in Keith's name so that all royalities can be funneled back into the projects that Keith was passionate about, including observer safety, observer education, and increased observer coverage.
