Love for Lexie

About a year ago, Lexie (our daughter, then 3 years old) became sick. She spiked a high temp, was very fatigued and complaining of body pain. After multiple trips to the pediatrician, and her condition only getting worse, we were referred to specialists in Danville. At that point, her labs had become so abnormal that they couldn’t pinpoint one specific diagnosis and we began the long journey to a diagnosis. We had a team of specialists who we were driving hours to see for numerous appointments and tests, which also meant taking unpaid time off of work to do so. In order to pay for these trips, we began putting normal household bills last and paying for our trips first. Finally, after months, we reached a diagnosis of immune deficiency and after a battle with insurance, we started Gamunex-C infusions. Her body had contracted a virus that she was trying to fight but with her immune system not functioning, she was unable to and was becoming weaker. On top of this, we also found out that she is anemic and has some mild heart issues-the cause of this is still being determined. We had a wonderful nurse who came into our home and taught us how to start each treatment on our own. These have helped Lexie tremendously! However, with Lexie’s (lifelong) immune deficiency means lots of continued follow-ups. We have quite a few visits in the upcoming months which means more money spent. We have been trying to catch up on all the bills we put aside within the last year and at this point everything has snow-balled. In the midst of everything, we had car troubles and had to buy Billy a new vehicle. Right now, we are unsure of where the funds for her next visits will come from. We both work extremely hard and still cannot get ahead. It takes a LOT for us to admit that we could use help but we are becoming desperate for help and this is our last resort.
