Every year over 70 of the nation's best poets compete for the title of Individual World Champion. This year, I have the honor of representing Houston VIP Poetry as the city's representative. As a 7 time member and Slammaster of the team, I have a great chance of bring the title back to Houston.
This year I have had so many successes, from Finalist for Houston's Poet Laureate to being runner up for the Loft's Spoken Word Immersion Grant. I have put in months of countless nights toward writing and polishing new work. Since being the #2 Best Ranked Female Poet in 2008, I have felt the calling to bring the trophy back home to a city who supports me so mush. And what better place to win but in our nation's capital: Washington D.C.
Unfortunately, with 11 days until the big competition, I am still a few dollars short of my hotel and food costs. Any amount will help. Washington, D.C. is an expensive place. Any amount you can give will really help me be able to make this giant step to put Houston on the map as a force to be reckoned with.
