Heather's Lymphoma RECOVERY!
Please help Heather continue her fight with Hodgkin's Lymphoma!
Heather Dawn Port (many of us know her as Heather Estabrook) has been fighting a tremendously difficult battle with Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Since her last fundraiser Heather learned her cancer is "refractory" – which means it doesn't respond to treatment. But she's not out of options – she will be in Seattle for a bone marrow transplant but needs our help to make it happen.
For the next stage of her treatment Heather needs to be over 4 hours away from home in Seattle for her bone marrow transplant. Everything is at stake here, and the cost is high. The Seattle treatment is at least $5000 out of pocket expenses – not even accounting for what it will take for her family to be able to be nearby to support her.
ANY AMOUNT of money you can give will help! Please give what you are able & share this fundraiser!
SEE BELOW for more details about Heather's fight with cancer. We're also attaching a photo of just one of the bills so you can see how little insurance really covers, and so you can see how much every dollar you can donate really does help!
Heather and her family thank you for your generosity – It's times like this that we all have to come together to help each other!
Heather is a wife and mom (with a toddler to chase!) who lives in rural Eastern WA. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in December 2013.
In Hodgkin's lymphoma, cells in the lymphatic system grow abnormally and may spread beyond the lymphatic system. As Hodgkin's lymphoma progresses, it compromises your body's ability to fight infection.
Heather wrote: "After a second round of a different chemo that did not work, I found out my cancer is refractory – which means it doesn't respond to treatment. I finally was able to get to Seattle for a bone marrow transplant in May, which ended up not happening because my disease had progressed. So I came back to Twisp I got started on a new treatment which had just been released out of the clinical trial – a 'salvage' drug, and had done amazing things for people.
Unfortunately for me, my disease did not respond to that treatment. I just started on a fourth chemo, that I am in my fourth round of, I had a recent scan that came back showing 65% shrinkage, I just had another chemo treatment yesterday, and I'll have another one next Wednesday. After that I will be moved to Fred Hutchison in Seattle on October 8th to receive my bone marrow transplant."
Heather wrote, "In Seattle I'll have a bone marrow transplant which means they're using my own stem cells which they already harvested in May. But prior to that transplant I will have to have heavy doses of chemo and possible radiation. Then I will have to stay in the hospital until my white blood counts are high enough for me to leave. And then it'll take months before we know if the cells are engrafting"
