Keith’s medical expenses

Donation protected
In May of 2018 my brother, Keith Douglas, started having problems with pain in his right knee. By July he was on crutches and seeking medical care. At first diagnosis, he was told they thought he had a torn meniscus. After further testing and CT scans it was determined that there was a tumor around his knee. After being biopsied the diagnosis was Osteosarcoma. With several doctors a treatment plan was given. Chemotherapy would be given to attempt to kill the tumor before surgery would be done. In September he started his first treatment of 6. He would have 3 treatments before surgery and 3 treatments after surgery. Each treatment, he would be admitted to the hospital for 3 days of inpatient chemo, then have a 3 week break before the next treatment was to start. In December he was due to have his knee fully replaced in hopes to remove the entire tumor. Due to a scheduling conflict the surgery was pushed to January 4th. This setback put him into another round of chemo while waiting for surgery. On January 4th he went in to Orlando Regional Medical Center to have this procedure done. Six hours after surgery was started he was done. No one expected the surgery to be as extensive as it turned out. The drs removed the entire knee and a portion of his femur and tibia. An artificial knee replacement was put in and steel rods were put in place of the femur and tibia. A week long hospital stay and then a week in a rehabilitation facility and he was able to go home for in home physical therapy. His last 2 chemo treatments were done by March 10th and the only thing left was therapy to get back to walking again. Well a few weeks later he was admitted again to the hospital because of infection in his knee. During this admission he underwent 3 more surgeries, one of which the artificial knee that was put in had to be removed and an antibiotic spacer was placed to help heal the infection from the inside. After 2 weeks in the hospital and several days in another rehabilitation facility he was able to go home. He is currently on daily IV antibiotics and is awaiting another surgery to have his knee put back in. As anyone can imagine his medical bills even with health insurance are insurmountable by now. Keith would never ask for financial help but I as his sister am asking anyone that can help to please do. Any amount is greatly appreciated and we continue to ask for prayers of complete healing.
