Carryit Come

Negrills and Nu:Gen Care CIC, have taken the initiative to ‘do something’, by providing and/or delivering a free meal to some of the elders in the Rugby and Coventry Communities. Through conversation we recognised the issues faced by our elders are the same in both communities. So, we have decided to pool our resources to create a single project to deal with the challenges the Covid 19 virus has thrown at us all.

Carryit Come” is the phrase we have heard time and time again as we’ve asked if they would like some authentic Jamaican soup on a Wednesday or dinner on a Sunday. In ‘normal’ times the responses would not be quite so enthusiastic as they would have bought their ingredients to create their own meal. But these are not ‘normal’ times; these are ‘lockdown’ and ‘social distancing times’. Our elders need to stay at home and to stay safe and that means they are, in many instances, having to do without their staple dietary intake of hard food, saltfish and ackee or cabbage, hard dough bread, bun or some escovitch fish as the charity food parcels will not reflect their needs.

So, we have decided that we need to provide a service of not just readymade ‘take away’ meals, but a service that gives them choice and provides them with the ingredients/ foods that allows them to cook their favourite meals.
