On January 31, Alex Galindo was involved in a terrible accident, that resulted in 36% of his body sustaining 2nd & 3rd degree burns. Most of the burns were to his face, hands, and legs. He has had two surgeries thus far, one that completely grafted his hands and another that took the skin from his back to graft the backs of his legs.
Fortunately, his face is healing very well and the grafts are all taking. He’s also kept his positive attitude, strong will, and determination throughout this process. He’s making what some would call a miraculous recovery, he’s quite lucky to be alive.
We’ve been here at the UC Davis Burn Unit since the accident. Things are starting to level out now and we finally have time to think about what comes next. He will be having intensive physical and occupational therapy for 3-6 months after this to regain full mobility and vitality in his body. As of right now, walking is quite challenging, he won't have full use of his hands for months, he is in a lot of pain, and he needs a lot of assistance for basic daily needs.
There are a lot of things for us to consider upon leaving. Neither one of us will be able to work for the first couple months, I will be helping him with twice a day wound care, dressing changes, multiple hours a day of physical therapy, doctors appointments, emotional healing, and just figuring out how to do this. So, we’re asking for help to make this transition as smooth as possible. We're basically starting over from the ground up.
We will get our crystal and singing bowl business back up and running as soon as possible but during the first phase of this transition, any financial assistance with living expenses is much appreciated. Prayers and well wishes are also welcomed and loved. He will make a full recovery but it is going to take a lot of hard work, sweat, tears, determination, and community support. We know that we’re never dealt anything we cannot handle and that many blessings will present themselves throughout this whole healing experience… they already have.
