Stroke treatment

Rewind to August 2016 – My husband James was enjoying his career in field sales at Stanley, was cycling for Team Stanley in the Pelotonia Century 100-mile “Riding for the Cure” charity bike ride, was looking forward to attending Oklahoma City Thunder games as a passionate season ticket holder, and was always helping several friends re-build their classic cars.

But in September 2016, his life changed in a flash.

James suddenly became violently ill. I knew this wasn’t normal and forced him (against his will) to go to the ER.  He walked himself to the car and we rushed to the hospital…by the time we arrived he could no longer walk.  James had just suffered a major stroke caused by an aneurysm rupture in his 40’s – and was unlikely to survive.

I went through the whole range of emotions:

What just happened?
How did this happen?
What are we going to do now?

After 30 days in a coma and numerous operations, through some miracle of God, James survived and awoke – and began the very difficult recovery journey.  His right side was paralyzed, he was unable to speak, and unable to perform rudimentary physical or mental tasks.

The cruel reality set in – in the prime of life, James was unlikely to work again and I faced supporting our family on a single income with massive, ever-increasing medical expenses.

BUT NOW THERE IS HOPE.  AND I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP.

James has just been ACCEPTED as an EXCELLENT CANDIDATE for what is called “perispinal etanercept treatment” at Dr. Edward Tobinick’s clinic in Florida. Since the procedure is still considered experimental, it is not covered by insurance. This procedure could be life-changing for James - as many patients have seen amazing results, as covered in a 60–Minutes story.

It is difficult for me to ask for financial help - I was raised to be self-sufficient. But this treatment is not covered by insurance and we can’t afford it otherwise. And I need to do this now for James.

Any size donation is greatly appreciated. All funds go directly to James’ treatment, and any excess will be used to cover his ongoing therapy and medical costs.

With Love,
Tammie, James and Shane
