Please help our dog.
This is Jax. He’s a 7.5 yr old black lab. Jax loves to play ball, loves walks and rides in the car.
Jax loves his brother, yellow lab, Kody. He and Kody are the sweetest most sensitive boys
ever. Jax was diagnosed with primary hyper-
parathyroidism in September. We were sent
to MU Columbia Small Animal Vet Hospital
and it was discovered there was a tumor on
his parathyroid causing it to malfunction. His
calcium was not being regulated and was
running extremely high. It was decided the
best course of action was to surgically remove the parathyroid gland. If all goes according to plan his other parathyroid will kick in and
regulate his calcium. Less than 24 hours after
surgery his calcium was normal! YaY! His
ionized calcium has to be monitored so we
know if his calcium gets critically high or
critically low.
Due to COVID-19 I am/was unable to go in
and stay with Jax due to their Covid-19 safety policy’s.
He was scheduled to come home (he’s 3 hours away) Monday/Tuesday if everything
continues to go well. I had his critical ionized
calcium blood tests set up with Bradford Park
in Springfield, MO. They had to close down
due to COVID-19 outbreak in the hospital.
Tentative date to reopen is November 6th.
Bradford Park is the only place that does same day results for the Ionized Calcium blood test. Lots of places do the test but have to mail off
the lab specimen to a place that take 5-7 days for results. We don’t have that kind of time. If his calcium gets high or low we need to know
immediately so we can get him medication
immediately to keep the levels in the normal
range. The only answer for Jax is to keep him
safe in the hospital where they can continue
to monitor his calcium. This extra care for Jax is something we couldn’t have predicted. We would appreciate any help you are able to give.
I will post copies of the bills and payments
made. If there is any money leftover we will
donate the remaining to MU Veterinary
Health Clinic. The safety of our precious boy
and family member is of the utmost
importance!
