Blessings For a Cancer Patient
Hello! My name is Detrea and I have been an in-home childcare provider for 23 years. In March 2014 I was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma, which is a rare and aggressive cancer. I was able to keep my childcare business open through seven rounds of chemotherapy and a stem-cell transplant, though I had to take a four-month hiatus. In December, I was able to regain my passion and return working with children, which helped improve my recovery process because they gave me a reason to wake up in the morning. I was in remission for 10 months.
Unfortunately, in April, it was discovered that my cancer had returned. The good news was that a new oral medication had just been approved, which meant I should be able to take one pill a day and continue life as normal..... but that was not the case for me. My cancer continued to grow despite taking the medication, which meant the medication was not working. My doctor informed me I would need chemotheraphy again, but it would be more aggressive than my first treatments. I would also require another stem-cell transplant, which would also be more difficult. This completely changed everything! I fought very hard the first time to keep children in my home, but this time it would not be possible. The second transplant requires much more recovery time. It would not be fair for the families and their children to suffer through this process with me again. The right thing to do was to close my childcare business, which was a very difficult decision for me for many reasons. In addition to loving kids, this business was also my income. Closing this business would mean losing my income, but medical bills are still piling up.
As a Christian, I know I must turn my needs over to God. He has always been faithful, and He will not fail me now. A pastor of mine once said, "Don't keep your pride from allowing someone else to give a blessing." Many friends have told me I should reach out to others financially because someone might want to give a blessing to me as they receive blessings from God. Throughout this process, I have always believed God had a purpose for me and my situation. I have trusted that God was doing a work in my life to touch others and share Christ with those I encounter along this journey. I ask that you provide a blessing and miracle for me so I can continue the journey God has laid out in my life.
