Simone’s road to recovery

Hey everyone!
This is quite difficult to write but I am going to give it my best. As many of you know I became physically handicapped in high school due to a traumatic knee dislocation. Three years later I had an identical injury on my other leg. Those two injuries were in 2014 & 2017. What many of you don’t know is that those dislocations tore every ligament in my knee and stretched my perineal nerve causing me permanent nerve damage in both of my feet. Those injuries were unlike anything any doctor had seen. I merely stood up and lost everything instantly. I had to learn how to walk again twice. The set backs throughout the rehabilitation process were constant. But despite all that I survived I graduated high school and college. I even studied abroad my final year of college in Germany.
Things were going pretty good up until last year. In the last several months I’ve started to have a lot more pain than I have had in a long time. I started to have major issues walking. Two weeks ago I finally went to an orthopedic doctor again for the first time in years and got pretty devastating news. Several ligaments are torn in both of my knees. The only solution is two different lengthy surgeries to reconstruct multiple ligaments in my knees. I am pretty gutted and overwhelmed.
The first of those surgeries is tomorrow on my right knee. The recovery process is 9-12 months potentially longer and then I’ll have the same surgery on left knee after the right one is healed. I am terrified but it’s what has to happen if I want a chance to walk long term. In total it could be two year or longer before I’m back on my feet.
All of my friends have been helping me look for accessible housing in Columbus over the last two weeks but that is not without it’s challenges. With surgery and physically therapy and potentially a rehab stay the bills will be astronomical. The medical bills are already nearing $5,000 and I haven’t had the surgery yet.
I hate asking for help but this situation is beyond my ability to handle myself. So I’m writing to all of my friends and asking for your help as I navigate what will be an incredibly difficult and expensive journey.
Even if you can’t donate please keep me in your thoughts and send positive energy my way tomorrow and over the next year. I appreciate all of you so much your support over the years and on this journey means more than you know.
I’ll be keeping everyone updated on my Facebook and here with how I’m doing! ❤️
