Who are Scott and Kara?
We all seem to know at least one couple that is just AMAZING with children. Sometimes they are couples that don’t have children of their own that step in and give their exhausted friends with kids a much-needed night out alone. You leave your children with this couple and don’t even need to worry about whether they are in good hands. The kids have a blast playing silly games and
doing fun art projects. They are taken care of perfectly, and can’t wait to be babysat again.
Scott and Kara, quite frankly, put this couple to shame. They are hands-down the most incredible people when it comes to connecting with and caring for children. Being Kara’s sister and a mother of two myself, I often reap the benefits of Scott and Kara’s awesomeness. On more than one occasion I have admitted to Kara that she is way better with my 3-year-old son than I am. I am often in awe of how she can talk him down from a tantrum almost instantly, gently leading his thoughts and attention in another direction, sparing me from wanting to pull my hair out and binge eat chocolate. Scott is the wonderful, goofy, uncle that makes the BEST animal noises. He never misses an opportunity to stop what he is doing and genuinely play and interact with his nieces and nephews. Don’t tell him I told you this, but he has an extra-soft spot for babies. It is the sweetest thing to see him, breathing the moment in deeply, while he is happily rocking endlessly with an infant on his chest.
If they’re so great with kids, why don't they have any?
Good question, I’m glad you asked! After five years of marriage and trying to have a baby, Scott and Kara started working with a fertility specialist. They have
spent the past 6 months exhausting all other possible options to conceive a baby, and eventually learned through all of the tests performed that Kara has zero
function of her fallopian tubes. Kara’s body is capable of carrying a baby and having a healthy pregnancy, but she will never get that opportunity without the help of Invitro Fertilization to allow her to conceive.
What can I do to help?
Scott and Kara’s biggest hurdles before them right now are money and time. Invitro Fertilization will cost them a minimum of about $15,000. Kara is about to turn 30, and it will get harder and harder for her to conceive the older she gets, especially with the reproductive issues that she has. You obviously can’t slow time down for them, but by helping to fund their IVF treatments, you can help them receive IVF treatments much, much sooner than if they were doing it all on their own.
Speaking of self-funding, why do they need the financial help?
Scott is currently in nursing school, finishing his last semester of an LPN program. Upon completion he will spend a little over a year doing a LPN to RN program, and will eventually do one more year of schooling to elevate his degree to a BSN. Though he is a full-time student, he still manages to hold down a job that
he absolutely loves. He works as a CNA at a facility that serves US Veterans who are no longer able to care for themselves. Scott takes a lot of pride in his work with
these incredible Veterans that sacrificed so much for our country, and in the words of his wife, “he loves his guys.”
Kara is a preschool teacher to 30 special education students. Her students are 3-5 year olds that have severe delays in at least two areas of their development,
such as language and cognitive delays. She also has students with genetic conditions including Down Syndrome and Austism. Kara absolutely loves her job,
and still refers to it as her “dream job.” Her love for her students is obvious, and it is incredible just to hear her talk about her class, her school, and the program.
As selfless and honorable as their jobs are, Scott and Kara simply don’t have the income necessary to set aside large amounts of money for IVF, especially with
Scott still in school. Scott and Kara pride themselves on being self-reliant and would LOVE to be able to keep their fertility struggles more private and save the
money themselves; but, they know that the longer they postpone IVF to save for it, the smaller the chance of having a successful pregnancy.
Wow, they ARE great! I want to help, but where will my money actually go?
All funds raised will be given to Scott and Kara directly to help with their IVF treatments. Any leftover funds will be used to help them adopt a child with special needs later on down the road. This has always been a dream of Kara’s, and now Scott’s, but they know that adopting a child with special needs will be the work of a lifetime, not just 18 years, and that it will require constant care and attention for decades.
THANK YOU for your showing your love and support for Kara and Scott. They truly want nothing more in life than to have the opportunity to become parents. They have longed for a baby for five years now, and this is our chance to help them fill that void in their hearts. Kara underwent some preliminary surgeries to help her become more fertile, but she only has about a 6 month window before it is no longer effective. Let's help her avoid subsequent surgeries by raising this money FAST! Every single dollar helps and gets them one step closer to having a child. From Scott and Kara themselves, and all of us that love them dearly, we cannot thank you enough!
