Asbestos is threatening our dream

ASBESTOS EMERGENCY

My name is Terry McCullough. I recently retired and have been consentrating on moving to our family property in Michigan. In the process of preparing the property for habitation which includes tearing down the old house, we discovered that the walls, ceilings, and caulking around windows have Asbestos. Asbestos has been linked to several forms of cancer including Breast cancer, Ovarian Cancer, Leukemia and Prostate cancer.

The biggest problem is that the house is partially collapsed and open to the elements. The plaster on the walls contains asbestos and are exposed to the elements which creates a health and safety hazard to the community.

We are seeking to raise $10,000 to pay for the demolition and removal of the contaminated debris by licensed asbestos professionals. We need all funds immediately to minimize the impact on the environment and our neighbors and to avoid fines by the village and/ or State, which could cost us our dream. We have not been able to find other grants or assistance from the State of Michigan to help cover the costs. Unfortunately we do not have adequate funds to complete the demolition and removal of the contaminated materials. we are retired and living on fixed incomes. That is why we are asking for your help.

This is so important to our family because my Grandfather, Mom and 2 of her four  brothers were diagnosed with cancer and died of cancer. 1 living brother also was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Asbestos has been linked to several forms of cancer including Breast cancer, Ovarian Cancer, Leukemia and Prostate cancer.

Cancer has definately impacted our family: Mom (Breast Cancer) Grandfather (Prostate) 3 Uncles (Prostate) They spent much of their lives living in that house. There is a high degree of probability that living in that environment contributed to their cancers.

It is a beautiful piece of property. 18 acres mostly woods which provide a habitat for Deer, Wild Turkey, Pheasant, Fox, Frogs, Birds etc. There is a Sassafras grove and lots of wild Berries. We also plan to plant  1.5 - 3 acres of lavender plants in the fall. We also plan to have a recording studio and retreat center for victims of trauma. So this is our attempt to prevent further spread of cancer causing Asbestos so the potential of the property can be realized. We will be extremely thankful for your support of this project.
