support Zumi's gender surgery


Hello hello, it’s Zumi.  That’s me, mean mugging at the wise age of three.  I'm now 31, and I'm SO grateful and excited to be having a gender affirming surgery on Dec 26!  I am a transgender, gender non-conforming person of color, making moves in the scene...and it's a literal dream that I am now in the place to intentionally have a surgery that affirms and celebrates my body.

Why is this beautiful?  There's a lot to say about growing up Japanese in the mojave deserts, with enemied parents, while being socialized female, but really a gender freak and a complete weirdo inside. Now, being a trans adult, with limp wrists and bronze skin, working 12 jobs in 2 years, surviving a lot of violence because of that, and trying to maintain the desire to love and heal all the weirdo wounds I have so I can be more human with my lovers, friends, and family.  Making a big healthy choice for my body is a big deal.  Having this surgery is a significant step to healing my weirdo wounds, and I am very ready.  Surgery is most terrifying for me because it means I'll have to lay my butt down for 2-3 weeks straight.  My stubborn busy body is going to surrender to the care of others- my queer dream care team.

Thank you from the depths of my heart and guts for reaching the first $ goal!!!  Because of that, I'll be able to pay for the travel costs to get my dream care team to me in Seattle and for food and supplies expenses in the 2-3 weeks following the surgery.  

My new goal is to raise $2,500 (total).  Super recently, I've had some unfortunate/unexpected news that my out of pocket expense for the surgery is much higher than was originally communicated to me.  As frustrating as that is, I'm still feeling grounded and ready to move forward.  Friends, fam, and strangers who've supported (in all tha varied ways), ya'll give the sparkle.  Whatever we can raise is beautiful.
