Hello,
Recently our Mom has been diagnosed with stage 3 Squamous Cell Lymph Node Carcinoma.
Not too long ago Mom noticed a lump under her chin area. She went to the doctor; they did a biopsy which resulted in the Stage 3 Squamous Cell Lymph Node Carcinoma diagnosis. Currently, the primary source of the cancer is unknown.
Mom will have to travel from her home in Berryville, VA. to Johns Hopkins in Bethesda, MD. multiple times a week in the upcoming weeks. Mom’s travels have already begun with multiple appointments with all the different doctors and a PET scan. She has an upcoming surgery to remove the tumor, along with more necessary appointments.
Currently they think (but haven’t confirmed) the primary cancer is in the jaw. After the surgery to remove the tumor, mom will have to return to Johns Hopkins 5 days a week for 6 or more weeks for radiation treatment. There will be additional surgeries to remove the primary cancer (once confirmed). If this is the case, mom will require additional surgeries consisting of facial reconstruction.
This is roughly a 60 mile/1hr 30min trip each way
Our Mom has been a single mother for most of our lives. She has taken care of us and always helped others as much as she could, even if she had to go without, herself.
In 2006 Mom had to go to the hospital for a disabling headache. She ended up having two brain aneurysms. Erica (her eldest daughter) received a phone call from the Doctor explaining the situation and that she needed to be prepared to make arrangements for the oncoming, almost certain, outcome that most aneurysms lead to.
Being the survivor that our mom is, she stayed strong, fought harder and came out even stronger than before.
Over the last 2 years, our mother’s health has been deteriorating. We’ve all had to watch her battle one health condition after another, including a series of mini strokes and other life-altering medical issues.
Our Mother is a warrior, our hero, and we are doing everything in our power to stand alongside of her in this battle. We have come together as a family and put together everything we can possibly come up with to ensure she makes is through this, though, we need your help! Help to get her to and from her appointments, travel money to the specialist and other Doctor’s she will need to be seen by, and medical bills that will incur, and have already begun piling up.
We are asking for anything that will help our mom, once again, come out of this stronger than she is now.
Help us; help her, KICK “Cancer’s” Butt! She isn’t ready to give up yet, either are we!!
