A Case for Climate and Sex

Donation protected
On October 27th, I am launching my project,  "A Case for Climate and Sex." The day will showcase artists' creative blending of the two buzz words, talks from climate and sexual health advocates, and a kids' education corner! The event will be interactive in order to stimulate dialogue around the two umbrella terms "Climate," and "Sex." The intersection is not meant to be obvious, but is supposed to engage our thinking on how the global issue of climate change effects, and intersects with reproductive choice and family planning. This project is in conjunction with a global summit of female leaders in action, called "The Global Turn On," taking place on the same day all around the world.

As I begin my Master's in Public Health at UC Berkeley, I intend to integrate reproductive health and justice as much as possible into my program. I use "sex," to encompass reproductive choice, femininity, masculinity, contraception, and sex education. I intend for this project to inform on what research is being done to better integrate family planning and reproductive choice into climate change policy and planning.

Family planning can mean empowering and educating women about their reproductive options, rather than meaning population reduction or fertility control. Family planning is a crucial element for accessing the solutions for humanity combating food and water shortages, displacement, lost livelihoods, and many other climactic effects.

So far, I have booked Humanist Hall in Oakland, CA for venue space. Vistaprint business and promo cards are being passed out. Next steps include buying space in local east bay news sources, launching the website and ticket-purchasing page, and coordinate refreshments and boxed lunches for the participants and attendees. All artists have started creating their pieces, and their work will roll out starting late August/Early September at www.climateandsex.org

Buy tickets here on the eventbrite  page.

You are encouraged to contact me directly if you have any questions about the project.
