I am trying to raise rent money for a very good friend of mine. Her family have fallen on extremely hard times and they are finding it increasingly difficult to pay all their bills and still put food on the table. They are not lazy people and work extremely hard, one in retail the other as a security guard. My friend has had to stop working to care for their youngest child who has been taken ill lately so they do not receive the money from her part time job to help anymore. Her husband makes enough money to be deemed ineligible for Housing Benefits but not enough to cover all the costs. They have also been told they may apply for a council property but will find it nigh on impossible to get housed as they are not classed as 'at risk' or 'high priority'. They have lived in the borough most of their lives. Any money they receive from Child Tax Credit goes towards the rent along with her husbands wages. This means the children have no money for basic things needed like a new pair of shoes or coat if need be, as there is no overflow of money. Her husband and her have tried increasingly to set some money aside however each time they have had to use it for emergency purposes such as tyres for their car, something one of the children need, gas or electric as they have had to be put onto meters as they were getting in debt with quarterly bills. They have been late on making full rent payments having to give the money to their landlord in dribs and drabs as and when they can throughout the month. This has resulted in him giving them an ultimatum that if they do not start paying in full on the agreed day he will start the process of eviction. My friend has never told anyone of the families struggles until today over tea at my house. This came as a huge shock to me as my friend is such a happy cheerful person I would never have guessed that there was any additional stress causing her to be unhappy. She cares for all her children and has taken on her youngest child's illness with such strength. They live in a three bedroom house privately renting and rent is around the £1300 mark. I am asking for £895 to put towards their rent so that a majority of the wages can be put to good use and help ease the pressures on them and their children considerably. Their rent is due by 7th of each month so is needed fairly quickly. As stated I only found out their troubles today and would really like to help. This would mean the world to this family who are just trying to get by after falling on extremely hard times, as we all do at times. They just need a little help to keep going and any help would be warmly received and greatly appreciated.
