Allie's seizure dog
We are trying to raise
money to help with getting a Seizure Service Dog for our daughter. Allison was
always a healthy child. She suffered from an illness that almost took her life
in 2009. After contracting a virus Allie
was hospitalized at John's Hopkins Hospital. While they were unable to
determine the cause, they were able to fight the virus. Unfortunately Allie
developed viral encephalitis, causing damage to a part of her brain. This has
caused her to have multiple problems over the last few years. One being seizures
that she has developed from the damage. Allie has had to make a lot of changes
in her life because of this. She has someone with her at all times, especially
when in water. For her safety, she has an aide with her while she is in school
and is monitored when sleeping. Although she takes multiple medications twice a
day and sees Dr.'s on a regular basis, she continues to have seizures. As you
can imagine this would be very hard for anyone to do. Allie has been very
strong & courageous through her ongoing battle with her illness. We have
been looking for ways to help her to stay safe & become more independent.
For this reason we have contacted Noelle's Dog's Four Hope to get a seizure dog
for her.
Seizure response dogs are dogs that are trained to respond to seizures. A seizure response dog may be trained to: fetch medicine, fetch a phone, hit a 911 button, alert another person in the house of the seizure, block a person from wandering into a dangerous situation during a seizure in which the person is still walking, brace a person as they fall, lay with a person during and after the seizure, and provide stimulation to an unconscious/semi-conscious person after a seizure. Although a dog cannot not be trained to detect a seizure before it occurs, often times they can detect one before it does. It takes a lot of time and intense training to prepare these dogs, therefore it can be quite costly. We have applied for a dog for Allie and are asking for any help you can give, anything would be appreciated. Please feel free to pass this on to others. God bless & we thank you.
