I am desperately seeking help for my sister Amanda who is an amazing mother of 3 young children, whom she deeply loves. She is a divorced mother with no help from her ex-husband who does not pay child support. Amanda was awarded full custody.
Amanda is a hard-working full-time mother trying to make ends meet, which has been a constant struggle, and unfortunately is extremely hard to do without additional support. Unable to get Medicaid, food stamps or any kind of government assistance, and having to pay for a babysitter. Every day is exhausting for her, wondering how she will feed her children, and pay all these required expenses.
Just recently Amanda was admitted into the emergency ICU unit with acute ketoacidosis which is caused by unregulated insulin, which caused acid to build up in her blood cutting off all oxygen to her organs. She was so bad that she required dialysis otherwise she was going to die. Thank God she was found in time. Today she is hooked up to monitors, a breathing tube and unresponsive, and although the prognosis is that she will fully recover, it will be a very slow process. She is expected to be in hospital for up to a month if not longer, and may require therapy afterwards.
At this time, she has already missed numerous days of work and because she so often must take time off for herself and children, she has used up all of her sick days & will not be compensated for her time off. This year alone Amanda has been in the hospital three times.
What Amanda needs most is an insulin pump to help her regulate her insulin levels in hopes to avoid these unnecessary and dangerous consequences. To get a new insulin pump even with her insurance is a $1,000.00 deductible, which is impossible for her to afford. Even though Amanda has health insurance through work she is still required to pay a partial amount for it, which is taken out of her pay. Family and friends help as much as they are able, but it is just not enough. In addition, she will now have these medical expenses.
Amanda will not be able to afford or go out and buy her children anything for Christmas because of this situation. We wish to help Amanda give her children the wonderful Christmas they deserve, to help relieve stress to get her through these unfortunate times. One can only image how challenging this situation is. Allowing her children to have a good holiday with a healthy mom will make all the difference.
We are asking for any amount that you can offer, even if it's just $1.00 because this is something that can help make a difference. If you can't help we understand completely and only ask for prayers that my sister makes a full recovery with all things well again.
