Olivia's Fearless Fight

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Olivia Grace Pierce. I am a very curious 4 year old. I love learning, playing with my doggie Bella, working on puzzles, going to the parks and the Science Center. I love jumping at the bouncy house, playing and having tea parties with my friends. I absolutely love playing in the water. In a matter of one day, my life went from doing all of those things I love to doctors appointments and hospital stays.

On October 4th, I was diagnosed with craniopharyngioma a rare type of brain tumor derived from pituitary gland embryonic tissue. This occurs in only two or three children per million. There are approximately 100 cases per year in the United States in children under the age of 18 years. Diagnosis most often occurs between ages 5 and 14. This tumor develops near the pituitary gland and above it, at the base of the brain near the optic nerves that connect the eyes to the brain. The tumor is near the pituitary gland or hypothalamus. If surgery isn’t done in time it can cause children to go blind and can cause a wide variety of hormone and neurological problems. The only treatment for craniopharyngiomas is surgery and radiation therapy.

My mother, Cindy, is a single parent with a full time job. Our family was able to locate a doctor in Boston that has worked with a few cases of this rare condition. My surgery is scheduled for November 1st. Because I am going to receive this surgery and treatment so far from home, life as they know it is at a standstill for our family during the surgery and recovery period until I am healed enough to come home. In order to be there with me through this process, my mom is having to take an unknown amount of time off of work. She has no additional income outside of her full time job and is now having to add these medical bills to her ever growing list of financial responsibilities.

Thank you for reading my story. The support and help from kind people can always shed a light on a very difficult situation like this. We want to thank everyone who has reached out and offered help with rides, meals, and everything else. We are starting this in hopes that it can help alleviate the financial stresses so that we can focus on what is more important: my health, my life, and the recovery process. Any amount will be greatly appreciated and will make all the difference.

Your positive thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated by me, my mom and my entire family. xoxo
