Stop the Electrocutions, Save Lives

In the South Caribbean of Costa Rica, hundreds of electrocutions to wildlife animals occur every year, although only a few are still alive at the Rescue Center. We receive an average of 25-30 electrocuted animals per year, of which we manage to save and recover 30%. 70% of the electrocuted animals are sloths and monkeys, and the rest are kinkajous, opossums, birds and reptiles, among others.
The Shock Free Zone program that we launched from the Jaguar Rescue Center, in cooperation with the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) and the supervision of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), consists of insulating transformers and electrical lines that are currently without insulation. ICE provides the professional staff, equipment and specialized vehicles for its installation and with your help, JRC buys the necessary materials.
Our goal for 2018 is to insulate 20 of those transformers, but to do so we need your help and collaboration. We hope you give us your support. We will be very grateful!

En el Caribe Sur de Costa Rica suceden cientos de electrocuciones a fauna silvestre cada año, aunque solo unos pocos llegan aún vivos al Centro de Rescate. Recibimos una media de 25-30 animales electrocutados al año, de los cuales conseguimos salvar y recuperar el 30% . El 70% de los animales electrocutados son perezosos y monos, y el resto son kinkajues, opossums, aves y reptiles, entre otros.
El programa Free Shock Zone que lanzamos desde el Jaguar Rescue Center en cooperación con el ICE y la supervisión de MINAE consiste en aislar transformadores y líneas eléctricas sin aislamiento. ICE aporta el personal profesional, equipos y vehículos especializados para su instalación y el JRC compramos con vuestra ayuda los materiales necesarios.
Nuestro objetivo para 2018 es aislar 10 de esos transformadores. Necesitamos vuestra ayuda y colaboración!
