Aid for IDP rape survivor Miriam & her child
Three years of fighting in SW & NW Cameroon has caused untold suffering for people in the region.
"Miriam", whose real name has not been disclosed for security reasons, is a 19-year-old IDP (Internally Displaced Person) living in Cameroon. Last year, Cameroonian soldiers entered her village, started shooting, and burned down homes. She fled to the forest for safety, but she was chased, caught, and gang-raped. She later found out she was pregnant and gave birth in March 2020.
She has fled her village and now lives in an unfinished building with her child in Yaoundé, but she doesn't know where her parents and four siblings are located.
Currently, her baby has a chest infection and she struggles to get money for medication and to support herself. We have partnered with the NGO Hope and Rehabilitation Organization (HARO) to help us collect and distribute funds directly to Miriam so she can use them to support herself and her child. The HARO stamp is found on her envelope.
