Hello, my name is Phil and i live in Sudbury, ON
I am reaching out to everyone, friends, family, and others that might want to help contribute towards this goal.
This lovely lady is in need of HELP.
A wheelchair and a prosthetic leg along with major home improvements are now required in order for her to have the ability to continue living in her home.
It generally takes several weeks to months to become mobile with a prosthetic leg, with full adaptation taking up to a year. The process involves physical therapy to learn how to use the prosthesis, adjust to its feel, and build strength and balance.
A wheelchair will be required in order to assist the transition to a prosthetic. A prosthetic leg in Ontario can range from $5,000 to more than $100,000. The cost to retrofit a home for prosthetic leg use varies greatly, basic modifications like widening doorways, installing grab bars, modifying bathroom and creating accessible entryways could cost upwards of $10,000 or more.
Ontario home at health can provide some assistance, however the process is tedious and lenghty, as well will not provide 100% of the funding required to assist in accommodating the needs required.
I am a proud nephew of a very special person not only in my life, but countless others. Recently, my aunt unfortunately had to make a very difficult decision to have her left foot amputated. A small, infected blister on her left foot slowly amassed an extremely infected wound that could no longer be treated. This left her with a difficult decision to let the infection spread to other areas or have her foot amputated.
To start, i will share what this lady means to me. At a very young age, my aunt at sixteen (1973) had her first child, shortly after i was born. At about the age of 18 months, my father (her brother) was a single parent and working full-time and a decision was made that my aunt would take me in to offer assistance for her brother. At the age of sixteen, this lady had 2 young babies to take care of and did so for many years after. I am now 51 years old and i still call her "Mom", as to me she had stepped in and provided that motherly role that a young boy needs. Having difficulties in her own life, i was moved over to live with my grandparents. However, my aunt was still heavily involved in my life. Fast forward until i was at the age of 15, i returned to live with my aunt again, however this time difficult times were upon her, having recently been divorced, having had another child years earlier, herself, her 2 sons and I moved into a small apartment. To ensure we all had our bedroom to call our own, she sacrificed her comfort and slept on the couch for many years.
A couple of years after, it was time for me to move out on my own to give her back the bedroom that a mom should have. Times were tough for me, being on my own at the age of 19, however i still remember my aunt often picking me up and taking me to the grocery store to get me some groceries, even though she did not have lots of money, she always ensured i was taken care of. I could never write down all the things this lady has done for me, only in return that hopefully i can help her raise funds to make this difficult situation a little less stressful.
This is why i have created a "GoFundMe" page in hopes of accumulating enough funds to help her pay for a prosthetic and the improvements in her home.
This is a woman, that has "Always" but forth everyone else before herself in so many aspects of life, always wanting to give to others less fortunate. I remember her working 2-3 jobs (bartender, waitress, bouncer, bookkeeper, sub shop and many others) at the same time only to barely struggle through life. Even though she endured hard and difficult times suffering with Fibromyalgia and Neuropathy for over 30+ years, she always had a "Smile" on her face, always helping everyone else first before helping herself.
Over the course of her life, she has helped so many others, for many years she has helped mentally and physically disabled adults, taking them to dances, movies, outings to give them something to look forward to and put a smile on their faces. I think one of the biggest hits having lost her foot is the worry that her "Girls" won't have anyone to step in like she has and provide them with so many positive impacts on life.
She has always supported fundraisers, helped raise funds for others, helped manage clubs like the 50+ age club, helping her kids, other kids, grandkids, basically everyone that either was selling something for fundraising, or organizing something for others.
She is so loved in the community of Chelmsford, a small town outside of Sudbury, ON.
Any donation is truly appreciated; every little bit helps and will be put towards hopefully making this transition a little easier.
I Truly "THANK" everyone for their contributions.
Thank You
Phil
