A Better Future

Working to get that smiling face back! Many of you are aware that Curtis has struggled with mental health issues most of his life. However, this past year has been a rough one! Not only for him, but for us as his parents too! He’s had trouble staying in school, and ultimately failed nearly all his classes,he’s attempted suicide twice, he’s run away from home, he’s tried drugs and has had a couple minor run-in’s with the law. He’s only now just 14!! After many failed attempts at therapy/counseling, his dad and I made the most difficult decision of our lives. In July, we placed him in a Residential Mental Health Treatment Program, which has a minimum 6 month stay requirement. The program is EXTREMELY expensive (our “discounted rate is $6000 a month). We took an emergency hardship withdrawal from Jason’s 401k plan to get him into the program, with the idea that our insurance would step in and cover some of the program. To date, we have not received any assistance from our insurance. And as a result, the withdrawal we took, is gone, with a minimum of one more month to pay for and I’m not sure that he’ll be ready to come home at the 6 month mark. We’re now working with an insurance advocate, in the hopes that she can convince them to help out, but she comes with a steep price tag too. We still believe we made the best decision we could to protect our son, and get him the intense therapy he needs. If only the Insurance Company believed that....
