A couple of years ago, I met Marvin, who lives in the alley behind my apartment building. Over time, we got to know each other, and I’ve come to deeply admire his resilience and kindness despite the enormous challenges he has faced.

Marvin has been homeless for more than 20 years, surviving by sleeping on cardboard boxes. For the past two years, I’ve been helping him navigate the long and difficult process of securing documentation and applying for housing. Now, after two decades on the streets, Marvin has achieved something incredible: he has secured a permanent supportive housing unit. For the first time in over 20 years, he finally has a safe place to call home.
